Why Organize a Community Meeting?

The Complex Transformation proposal is a historic opportunity for the public to register its feelings about nuclear weapons with the U.S. government. However, the government is only organizing hearings in a select group of communities close to nuclear weapons production sites.

By organizing a community meeting in your area you can:
  • Bring your community together for civic actions that help define our future.
  • Educate your community about Complex Transformation
  • Encourage and collect comments about the proposed actions.

Join the movement! Communities have already began holding their own hearings, before the official hearings have even begun! Click here to see a video of the meeting held in Madison Wisconsin.

How To Organize A Community Meeting

A community hearing can be as formal or informal as you choose, from a gathering of family and friends to a formal gathering at the state capitol building. The two important characteristics are:
  • Provide a forum for members of your community to discuss nuclear weapons policy
  • Record this discussion or individual's comments and submit it to the DOE before April 10th 2008. This submission can be in written form, audio recording or video.

Click here for a flyer giving detailed steps on how to organize your own public meeting.

Materials are available in the side bar for you to use in organizing.

And don't forget we are here to help!  Contact us, the Campaign for a Nuclear Weapons Free World or the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation for more information and support.
