The NNSA, an agency within the Department of Energy, is holding a public scoping hearing at [INSERT LOCATION HERE] for the Notice of Intent to prepare a programmatic environmental impact statement (PEIS) for Complex 2030. Your oral comments should be a summary of your major concerns, emphasizing and explaining the most important points. It is a good idea to write down what you plan to say. You should also submit comments in written form. The Department of Energy (DOE) is required to consider both written and oral comments but written are probably more effective in terms of a paper trail.  You may hear others comments and want to incorporate theirs into your own when you submit your written comments.

Sample Action Alert:

Should the U.S. rebuild nuclear weapons back to Cold War levels?

The U.S. wants to get back in the nuclear weapons business, but we are not going to let them. The Department of Energy recently released a Notice of Intent for the massive renovation of the nuclear weapons complex. Under the DOE’s plan, “Complex 2030,” the U.S. would have the ability to produce up to 125 nuclear weapons per year – a level comparable to what we had during the Cold War.

It’s not everyday that the U.S. government invites us to tell them exactly what we think of the nuclear weapons complex. But on November 9, 2006, you will have a chance to do just that.
